Already under Debt Review? Start with your existing paperwork
How to organise a status enquiry without making another application or paying for a promised quick removal.
Find out what stage you are at
People sometimes use “under Debt Review” to describe very different situations: an initial conversation, signed application paperwork or an established repayment process. Start with the documents rather than the label. Find the last correspondence from the counsellor and note what it says.
Ask for a written status update with the documents relevant to your case. If you cannot find the original contact details, verify the counsellor through the NCR register. Keep any enquiry factual and avoid sending a full financial file to several unverified businesses at once.
Ask for a clear payment picture
Gather recent account statements and the payment records you have. If something seems inconsistent, list the date, amount and account in a private note. Ask the responsible provider to explain that specific item rather than trying to reconstruct the entire history on a rushed call.
An unexplained balance does not by itself establish what went wrong. Statements can reflect different dates and transactions. Get the relevant records and a written response before drawing conclusions.
Be careful with quick-removal promises
The NCR’s March 2025 circular warns about businesses promising Debt Review removal for large fees. The correct route depends on the legal stage and circumstances. Do not assume that paying a new provider will remove a credit-bureau status.
Ask anyone proposing a change to state exactly what process they intend to use, why it applies to you and what it costs. Where you need legal advice, seek appropriately qualified assistance. This guide cannot decide whether withdrawal, clearance or another route is available in your case.
A short message you can adapt
“Please confirm the current status of my Debt Review matter and provide the latest documents and payment records relevant to my case. Please also explain the next step, who is responsible for it and whether any action is required from me.”
Send that message using a verified private contact channel. Keep a dated copy and the response. Do not include an ID number, account statement or banking information in a public comment. If the issue remains unresolved, consult the NCR’s official complaint channels.
